In suitable cases a dental implant can be placed in the socket straight after the tooth is removed, and you leave the clinic the same day with a temporary tooth in place. This is called an immediate implant. It combines the extraction and the implant placement into one visit, shortens the overall treatment time, and matters most for front teeth, where nobody wants to be left with a gap.
Not every case is suitable. Immediate placement depends on the amount and quality of bone, the health of the gum, whether there is any infection, and how much load the tooth will take. Dr Pedram Negahban (GDC 82959) assesses this at your consultation with a CBCT scan, and if immediate placement is not the right choice you are told why and what the alternative plan looks like. Where it is suitable, most cases still involve a temporary tooth first and the final crown once the implant has healed. Our dental implants page explains the process, and our fees page lists the costs, with titanium implants from £1,800.
Most healthy adults with one or more missing teeth may be suitable for dental implants. During your consultation, we will assess your oral health, bone density, and overall suitability before recommending the most appropriate treatment.
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, dental implants can last for many years and are considered one of the most reliable long-term tooth replacement options.
The procedure is carried out using local anaesthetic, ensuring you remain comfortable throughout treatment. Most patients report that the recovery is easier than they expected.
Treatment times vary depending on your individual case. Some patients are suitable for immediate implant solutions, while others may require longer treatment, with several months needed to allow the implant to integrate with the jawbone before the final restoration is fitted.
Yes. Dental implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, multiple teeth, or even support a full arch of replacement teeth.
